Ocean’s Eleven is a wonderful film and the two follow on are composed a profitable time, although not the same quality as the first. The second is by far the weakest and takes the most liberties with being ridiculous. You do have to suspend disbelief in these films but it is totally insane to say they are a poor trilogy especially when the first is genius. Not to mention that the fresh is actually handsome crappy if you go wait on and discover it. Unprejudiced because it is a classic doesn’t effect it superb. If you scrutinize at the new Thomas Crown it is actually quite awful. The remake was a fun, very well done film. Clearly the previous reviewer has an axe to grind and that is making it into their review. If the extras are anything like extras on the non-HD versions, you’ll be overjoyed. Rarely have I appreciated a commentary but they have some astronomical ones on these discs.

Danny Ocean (Clooney) and his gang are attend, this time to procure revenge against Willie Bank (Pacino) . Bank has screwed over Reuben Tishkoff (Gould), and taken his land and money to fabricate a unusual casino, causing Reuben to have a heart attack. The gang, led by Ocean, Rusty Ryan (Pitt), and Linus Caldwell (Damon), choose to effect the modern casino deep into the red and prefer Bank’s diamonds.

“Ocean’s 13″ is a big improvement over “12″ and on par with “11″, if not a itsy-bitsy better. The cast know their characters so well by this point and have a ample chemistry. You know that they had fun making this movie, and it shows. The action is minimum, but interest is sustained through following their view as it comes to fruition. There are some twists, but nothing earth-shattering. Mostly, this is a chance to inspect obedient actors doing their thing. Fans of this series will not be disappointed, and although director Steven Soderbergh says this is the last one, I can’t benefit but hope that he changes his mind.

For those of you unique to all things Babylon 5, here is my bustle down of this set:

1. THE GATHERING - As the series pilot it is a decent pain. It’s best to scrutinize this one before watching Season One but it’s pretty if you get it anytime. In fact this one is worth viewing again after watching seasons 1-3 to procure A LOT of foreshadowing. You can’t realize the of traps JMS has place honest in this pilot. I give this one 3.5/5.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Babylon 5 - The Movie Collection! Click Here

2. IN THE BEGINNING - Holy crap! 5/5. By far the best exertion of JMS and his crew, second only to Severed Dreams (episode in Season 3) . Anyone can thoroughly savor this this one without ever seeing one episode of Babylon 5 (like my wife) there are some vast spoilers. So do yourself a Gargantuan favor. Do not spy this movie until after you have completed Seasons 1 through 3. Also, this one features Chris Franke’s best gain. This one alone is nearly worth the recall brand.

3. THIRDSPACE - I like this one more than many others might. It introduces a H.P. Lovecraft type of element to the Babylon 5 universe. Personally I really like this unusual wrinkle and wish that it received further exploration. Salvage this one after about the 7 episode in Season 4. This one features a crazy (perhaps even ridiculous) battle scene and a girl fight at the raze that is well worth seeing. 4/5.

4. RIVER OF SOULS - A myth about the Soul Hunters (introduced early in Season One) . Martin Sheen is in it (a bit of a miscast for some people) . Gape this before the last episode of Season 5 (Sleeping In Light) . I like Franke’s salvage alot. This one focuses more on some of the peripheral characters like Lochley and Zach which makes for a nice change IMHO. Tracy Scoggins in lingerie = yummy! Also, another series regular has a terrific performance at the climax that should not be missed. 3.5/5.

5. CALL TO ARMS - This is meant to abet as the transition to JMS’s next Babylon 5 series: CRUSADE. IMHO, Chen’s procure is totaly out of area and is a distraction. The effects are not as valid as the other films as well. On other hand, there are some unusual and gripping characters (many which become fragment of the Crusade series) introduced that detached earn this one worth watching. Peter Woodward and Tony Todd really shine in this one. 3/5

The release of Babylon 5 The Movies on DVD marks the closing of the critically acclaimed Babylon 5 series, arguably one of the best Science Fiction series to date. Having said that, it’s indispensable to remember that this box position should not be viewed as a starting point for first-time Babylon 5 viewers.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Babylon 5 - The Movie Collection! Click Here

As indicated by the editor’s review, the only DVD that can be viewed first is ‘The Gathering’, the reworked pilot which is helpful as an introduction to the universe and the characters. The other movies were made either during or after the conclusion of the B5 series and as such fill many elements that would completely waste a first-time viewer’s experience of the five year arc.

The movies ‘In The Beginning’, ‘Thirdspace’, ‘River of Souls’ and ‘A Call to Arms’ are all welcome additions to the existing B5 universe, allowing us to view fair how far the characters have developed through the series. Although the self-contained nature of ‘Thirdspace’ and ‘River of Souls’ in particular do not provide the level of mounting suspense that we’re former to in the series, they’re quiet worth watching and allow the B5 flame to burn fair that puny bit longer.

To summarise: If you are a first-time Babylon 5 viewer, you would be better off to catch the single DVD ‘Gathering / In The Beginning’, leer ONLY ‘The Gathering’ and then work your plan through the season DVD box sets before interesting onto the movies. If you are a fan or have a obedient idea of the B5 universe, this is an kindly companion to the five B5 season sets.

Believe it or not, there’s really not grand more that can be said about this record and its production history that hasn’t already been said about it in the “description.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream A.LI.CE! Click Here

Aside from the narrative itself, which is surprisingly intriguing enough considering the “gimmick” frail to sell it, the ‘philosophical themes’ it explores are likewise piquant — exactly WHAT would you do if you were mysteriously jettisoned into the future and discovered that you may have actually been responsible (either directly or indirectly) for the creation of a monstrousity of a ’supercomputer’ that arbitrarily decides who lives, who dies or where they are permitted to exist?

This is the scrape facing young Alice, who first made history as the youngest person ever to fade through position — or, rather, she WOULD have been, if it had not been for the TwilightZone-esque “detour” her shuttle was forced to build.

Buy,Download, Or Stream A.LI.CE! Click Here

As a result of being violently pulled out of the world she knows into a unique world totally peculiar to her, Alice is faced with a number of unsettling choices that only she can gain — and ANY choice she makes will have yell conclude on and consequences for the future world where she now finds herself a visitor:

- Should she cooperate with those who want enlist her befriend in destroying the computer and the human tyrant who controls it? Or should she not to collect enthusiastic?

- Should she remain in the future with her modern friends and serve them through their struggles? Or should she try to procure a map to return to “her fill” time and leave them to fend for themselves?

- And even if she could earn a map attend home, what should she do with the knowledge now granted her? — Should she then plan upon her vision of her future in an attempt to change history’s outcome? Or should she not try to tamper with the pretty balance and resign herself to her maintain fate & the world’s fate?

Tough questions; No easy answers! But, in the raze, Alice DOES arrive a personal decision and is sure to stick with it — and, in the demolish, we, too, are ecstatic with the choice she’s decided on, though it means there will be difficult challenges ahead for all keen.

A myth and theme reliable of making you forget that you are watching what is essentially an extended independently running “PlayStation” computer game, as this movie is, makes A.LI.CE not only top-notch of label but also something very special. And the accompanying music soundtrack is simply aesthetic!

(Unfortunately, the “English Dubbed” voice-acting is objective frightful! — so acquire a suggestion I do not often develop, and bask in this one ONLY in the new Japanese audio, even if you detest reading subtitles.)

~

[[As a side note: This film's title is DELIBERATELY written "A.LI.CE" for TWO very specific reasons -- which both became wonderfully apparent to me, but which collected drowns the greater number of people in a deep sea of confusion. I honestly & truly would treasure to piece these "secrets" gradual this film's title, but everytime I try to show some special "inside" or "clarifying" information about Asian movie titles or background history I always seem to attract people who bask in "voting against" me for my efforts in these review forums. I've now decided that it's no longer worth it for me to continue doing this, so this time, with sizable sadness, I'm keeping THIS particular secret to myself!]]

Well, this is one of the better stories I had in anime films last year. The technique seems to be a dinky out of day, but its one of the first precise cgi films, so I have forgiven them.

Beside the narrative there is an spellbinding special feature about the history of cgi anime films. You will cherish it.

Since it was nearly seven years since the last time the E Street Band and Bruce Springsteen played together during the Tunnel of Admire and the Amnesty International tours, their coming together in 1995 was a fans dream.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Blood Brothers! Click Here

The band members had become more adept at playing their instruments, they had matured some, and it comes out in the numerous renditions of Blood Brothers and Secret Garden (which would be later conventional in the movie Jerry Maguire) that we acquire to eavesdrop on like a wing on the wall in the studio.

The E Streeters do an awesome job with Cancel Incorporated, a song they’d aged for years in concerts, objective had never released on an album before.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Blood Brothers! Click Here

And when they finally pick up to This Hard Land, it’s Springsteen at his purist; no politics, no agenda, fair people and obedient hard rock and roll.

As a fan I’d cheer the Boss if he did nothing more than sit in a chair with an acoustic guitar and deliver for an hour, but what you’ve got here is 90 minutes worth of slow the scenes goings on, and it’s well worth the money.

And if you never have, produce clear you go to a concert if you ever have the chance. You’ll never forget it.

This is a documentary filmed over 7 days, which was the total time that the band came together to set together their Greatest Hits CD. The whirlwind project entailed recording 4 songs in the studio, taping a live performance of “Blood Brothers” for a music video, choosing which previously recorded tracks to include, taking mild photographs for promotion and many other decisions. You will behold footage containing debate about which cloak photograph to engage, which songs should be on the CD or not, including intriguing a harmful suggestion to leave “Screech Road” off to produce more residence for other songs! This is basically a reality note about a sever of the life of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Well abet in 1995 when this was made we called these documentaries but now that it is 2002 and we are deluged with reality shows I’d liken this more to a reality point to than a documentary!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Blood Brothers! Click Here

If you are eager in what really goes on during a studio taping and mixing of music, and about late the scenes decisions, you will worship this. People keen in the business kill of the entertainment industry will savor seeing the interaction between the producer and the manager and the musicians. If you are a stout fan of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band you will adore it, of course, that goes without saying.

I am not a musician and am ignorant about the process of making music, but this movie gave me some insight. We search for Bruce telling the band what his vision for the songs is, how he wants the mood, his raw ideas, and then the feedback of the musicians and the businessmen. We ogle discussion of whether the music is overpowering the lyrics, whether the music is really setting the tone of the message of the song, etc. We peruse the band members composing their acquire parts to the songs. We hear debate about which version of the song is the best, which invokes the obliging mood and message. We peek a meeting with an outside consultant who remixed “Secret Garden” with some string instruments and we search for the band vote for their celebrated version (it is not unanimous) . We contemplate Bruce tired and working hard, and in one scene he looks as if he fair woke up from a nap with “bed head”. We peer them out on the streets with fans calling their names and asking for autographs and asking Bruce for a kiss on the cheek (which was refused) .

Springsteen brought up the Greatest Hits project conception on a Thursday and recording began a few days later. The whole project was done in a week. What a whirlwind. Because this was the first time the band had officially studio-recorded in 11 years, and 7 years since performing together, there were some enchanting dynamics going on and band members were commenting about their emotions and happiness at being together again.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Blood Brothers! Click Here

After watching this I have more respect for musicians than I archaic to. As a consumer and listener of the final product I hadn’t really been exposed to all the hard work that goes on unhurried the scenes. It is apparent throughout the film that Bruce, the band, the other artists and the business people worked very well together but aloof I could enjoy the hard work and effort of it all. As with other types of projects, there is the dream and the unusual concept, there is the path along the device where others give input, compromise is made, different things are tried, and one final thing results, which does not always please everyone. The looming deadline is there and impacts the project.

I also was left completely in panic of all it takes to write colossal lyrics, to execute music, and then to obtain it to the extinguish product. This film helped me realize honest a sever of what goes on late the scenes and to delight in all it takes to build out a studio recording. What talent each musician must have to be able to do this work! I was left with the feeling that to be musical, it is an inborn talent not something that is easily learned. I also realized the upright dedication of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band. It was very definite to me that Springsteen cannot befriend but write and do, it is in his blood, it is a calling, it comes natural and it cannot be suppressed. Musicians must gain music, writers must write, you cannot conclude them! And to Bruce and the E Street Band I beg: “Don’t discontinuance!”

My one complaint was the spoken share of the track seems to be a lower volume than the music. I was straining to hear some of the mumblings and fast-talking and then when the music came on it was blasting! As I watched it I took out my copy of the Greatest Hits CD and compared it with the final songs that made the carve, the photograph of the band we saw being shot, and one inside shot was a proposed conceal, which was shot down. And of course as a gigantic fan I wished the film were longer, and that I could have such a bird’s perceive thought of their work process more often!

“The Pursuit of Happyness” is an unabashed tearjerker about the American Dream and commitment to family in the face of stout odds. It was inspired by the honest epic of Chris Gardner, who spent some time in the 1980s homeless while trying to care for his young son and produce it through a stockbroker internship. The film is fictionalized but stays apt to Gardner’s struggle for success and dedication to his son. Gardner’s autobiography, which goes by the same title, was actually published after the film was written. In San Francisco, 1981, Chris Gardner (Will Smith) can’t perform ends meet selling portable bone density scanners, while his embittered wife Linda (Thandie Newton) waitresses 2 shifts a day. Chris spies a man with an enviable sportscar on the street one day and asks him what he does for a living. He’s a stockbroker. So Chris decides that’s what he’ll be. He must be at the top of his class after 6 months in Dean Witter’s competitive internship program to be hired. Meanwhile, Chris has no wife, no money, no paying job, and a 5-year extinct son (Jaden Smith) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Pursuit of Happyness! Click Here

A fable of hardship and hard work, paternal cherish and frustration, could easily be too saccharine for words. It’s saved from this fate by Chris Gardner’s desperation. Gradual his indomitable pluck, Gardner is truly desperate. He has no money, no home, hazardous prospects, and the responsibility of providing for a young child. He hides his circumstances from his colleagues. He’s spends an inordinate amount of energy chasing errant bone scanners around town. He compromises his ethics. His single-mindedness eventually takes a toll on his son. Chris is struggling for his life. And his financial problems are something the audience can understand and may themselves panic. That’s why “The Pursuit of Happyness” works so well. Credit is due Will Smith’s Oscar-nominated performance and Italian director Gabriele Muccino’s idea of intense emotions painted with little strokes.

The DVD (Sony 2007) : There are 4 featurettes, the song “I Can” by Bebe Winans and Dave Koz (5 min, audio), and a feature commentary. “Making Pursuit: An Italian Occupy on the American Dream” (17 min) interviews Gabriele Muccino, Will Smith, and the producers about choosing Muccino to teach. Muccino talks about filming in San Francisco and working in English. “Father and Son: On Hide and Off” (7 min) recounts casting Jaden Smith after auditioning hundreds of other children, and Will Smith talks about working with his son. “The Man Slack the Movie: A Conversation with Chris Gardner” (12 min) interviews Gardner about his participation in the film, and Will Smith talks about learning from him. “Inside the Rubik’s Cube” (6 min) is a fun short documentary on the persistent popularity of the Cube. There is a nice audio commentary by director Gabriele Muccino, in English. Muccino tells us how he got the job, discusses themes, recreating the 1980s, Will Smith’s trust, locations, and some technical details. Subtitles are available for the film in English, French, Spanish. Dubbing available in French.

The one film that sticks out in my mind as the best movie of 2006 is The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith. This movie is based on a book of the same title authored by Chris Gardner.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Pursuit of Happyness! Click Here

In the movie, Gardner is a medical product salesman who ends up splitting up with his wife and ends up homeless with his 5 year-old son. Certain to not give up, Gardner endures homelessness and ends up pursuing an internship for a stockbroker state at a major Wall Street investment firm. Despite the trials and tribulations Gardner went through, not only due to the lack of a roof over his head but also the hard work related to his internship and even an IRS seizure of his money to boot, Gardner’s endurance and hard work pays off.

The movie, and I am clear the book, is a testament to how anyone can net themselves out of poverty and become wealthy with hard work, persistence and determination. Gardner had an even bigger reason to work hard due to the need for him to provide a advantageous life for his son.

The yarn of Chris Gardner’s going from rags to riches is an inspiration for us all and all of the elements of this film makes for one heckuva titanic flick!

Spriggan is a fast-paced action account with stunning animation. However, that’s ALL it is. If you’re looking for an challenging account filled with entertaining and well drawn fight scenes, then this is for you. However, characterization is tiny, and in some cases non-existent. The spot is simple and leaves areas outside the main plotline almost completely unexplored. There is also no romantic angle to it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Spriggan! Click Here

In other words, this movie is apt at what it is, which is a pure shoot ‘em up adventure film complete with everything from car chases to gun battles to knife fights. It doesn’t pretend to be anything other than that.

This anime is exactly like your typical action movie, only captivating. It’s got your stereotypical characters - tidy soldier, psychic kid, contemptible government branch, feeble scientist dude and some French guy. There are many explosions! It is very well curious and fun to contemplate, but the residence will leave you a diminutive confused on the details and has a high corniness quotient. The ending especially was like a string of cliches, while at the same time not making a lot of sense.

The one feature that makes it stand out is the dub sounds substantial! I hardly ever gape dubs because they usually do not start to compare to the Japanese version, but all the actors in the Spriggan dub did a amazing job!! The voices fit the characters (perhaps better than the originals), and the acting was on the notice.

I do have a complaint about the DVD menus, which is the text is so slight I had a difficult time reading it. My tv is of a decent size, so I have no opinion why they chose to create the writing so petite. Besides that, the extras were ok, but there wasn’t remarkable of them.

This was fun to stare once, but I doubt I will explore it again. It’s a nice rental. If you indulge in action movies even if they are a petite cliched, you will probably have fun watching this.

Uwe Boll is the kind of director that you can’t encourage but worship to disfavor. No matter how many universally panned films he makes, he honest keeps going, and keeps churning them out one suitable after the other, and we level-headed sustain watching them. Personally, there’s nothing I like better than to have a laugh at one of a number of Uwe’s trainwrecks (House of the Insensible, Alone in the Black, BloodRayne; c’mon, you know the list), but lately, the master of error has churned out some flicks that actually haven’t been half unpleasant with Postal and Seed. Tunnel Rats falls into this category as well, as this time around Uwe steps away from the video game adaptation world and focuses on a too often forgotten piece of the Vietnam war, of which tunnel digging played a pivotal role in. Boll popular Michael Pare stars as the lieutenant of a group of these soldiers, as Boll offers a bleak and unflinching gawk at the Vietnam war. What it lacks in terms of characterizations, Tunnel Rats more than makes up for in keeping the viewer compelled, which is a shrimp miracle in itself. Not to mention that Boll has a eager observe for carnage here, even if the camerawork and editing isn’t always as well-behaved as one may hope. Tranquil, by the time the waste credits roll, you’ll probably be left thinking honest what was the point of the whole thing, but at the same time, Tunnel Rats remains a surprisingly solid, violent, and gritty war flick that is worth giving a shot.

I do not jump on the bandwagon either diagram on Uwe’s work, if there is a righteous film I will review it accordingly. Simply, this was a painfully wearisome tunnel film, beginning to slay. Will try conceal in this two sections: film and features.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tunnel Rats! Click Here

As far as the film goes, there was an earnest attempt at recreating the tunnels, jungle isolation and military equipment. The slow amount of character discussion leading up to the tunnel infiltration can be a killer (32 minutes of it before the first lid is popped), then you have to stomach over 48 minutes of crawling, digging, repetitively poor writing and a non-existent train structure. There are several outdoor battle scenes quite reminiscent of Predator in the amount of M-60s being swung around one-handed, with believability made even more absent as soldiers stand by as they are blown up by their hold planes (for a couple minutes mind you - I figure they should have hurry after the 1st bomb, or maybe the 20th, but anyway…) .

The special features own some nice tidbits for Uwe fans. There is a 14 shrimp interview of Uwe stating his reasons why the US lost the war in Vietnam and why the film exists. A 10 tiny making-of details the thinking and locations of this film (the tunnels were actually all on a stage - not in the jungle as stated by another reviewer here) . The best material comes in the construct of Uwe and the other actors admitting there was no script - they all wrote their possess parts and winged the whole thing. 6 minutes of rightfully deleted scenes rounds out the last feature.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tunnel Rats! Click Here

A couple more things - Uwe states that the soldiers are “responsible for the war” and on more than one occasion stands by his questionable feeling that the main reason the US lost the war was because of the tunnels only…hmmm. Ample SPOILER: the worst allotment of this whole mess was the entire film becomes pointless when every single person from both sides is killed - makes you feel like the whole time investment in any character was moot.

Once more - I am not a hater of Uwe, but this was a very long, dumb, poorly written production.

The Series started off on a light goofy touch. A bit of anime nudity that probably could have been skipped to obtain the series more tasteful and calm objective as sexy. Then the tone changes when a abominable event occurs to Remu. From there you inaugurate learning indepth about each of the girls personalities and the skeletons they hold in their closet. Some have very light secrets, and some very grim.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Shuffle, Vol. 6! Click Here

The Anime takes a turn for the shallow goofy episodes and begins to narrate a distinguished deeper and serious legend. Protest actor Carrie Savage does an astonishing job as “Kaede” and really brings out the darker side of the character.

In Vol. 6 Rin is detached faced with the consequences of his decisions. He has to search for the hearts he led on be broken. Interestingly enough both Narine and Lisianthus are at peace with Rin’s decision since their feelings were settled on in earlier episodes, but it’s Kaede that we salvage to learn of this time. Once Rin finally breaks out the truth Kaede has to gain peace within herself. Ironically it’s Primula that helps Kaede fetch assist on her feet and headed in the correct direction.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Shuffle, Vol. 6! Click Here

Vol.6 also focuses heavily on Rin’s relationship with Asa. We no longer salvage to glance them as the alarmed boy and girl not admitting their feelings, but now a actual couple. This ending series really test the limits of their care for. Now this is where the fable really falls apart. Asa is a Side character in the anecdote.

The first few disc focus on Rin and all the other girls but Asa. There’s only a breif episode on Asa, but she is mainly a backseat character. Then all of a sudden the chairs are flipped and all the main characters select a help seat and Asa is miraculously infront. Honestly as suited as the series was getting this really ruined it. Rin out of now where is passionatly in appreciate with Asa, but we never derive to eye their relationship execute to that point. Positive, they have a encourage tale, but we don’t leer it.

It’s hard to understand why this character was a better consume, because the veiwer never gets a chance to survey the characters perform together. From the contrivance the series was leading with the abundance of pro-Sia episodes it was expected Rin would chose her, but out of now where he choses a random “filler” character. For me it really broke the account and made the chosen romance feel out of situation. Ideally Sia would be the ideal character, because we come by to recognize relationship development with her in the anime. However, Glide! ruins its chronicle line with the turn of events. Overall I concept the Anime was titanic, the art was unbelievable, the characters where attractive, but I felt as though the decision Rin made strayed away from the direction of the anime. It was unexpected, and didn’t seem to fit with the direction of the prove. However I mild reccomend this Anime it was nice, but again you may or may not be delighted with the turn of events.

By this point in time you should know that this is no ordinary romance or harem series. This present is unpredictable, bipolar, and extremely addicting. It’s because this indicate is some abnormal that it’s so helpful. This last volume answers the put a question to of which girl he resolve though left us with a fact from the world of the gods that could continue the battle of Rin’s girlfriend. Needless to say if you liked the previous volumes, you’ll worship this one. However if you’re not into the whole dating sim based anime then I’d remark you to steer determined. And if you really want to perv out, you can remove the box dwelling which includes a pair of Sia’s panties former durnig the reveal!

- Valeris’s interrogation scene has been entirely reedited. There are now end up shots of Kirk and McCoy when they pronounce their lines instead of being in wide shots. When Spock and Valeris name a particular conspirator, the face of that person briefly appears in a flashback like style.

Do I recall this version of the film? Certain. I personally bear that Valeris’s interrogation scene is mighty more dramatic with the flashback shots. It really helps the viewers who aren’t worthy with names understand who Spock and Valeris are talking about, and adds a miniature more tension arrive the kill of the film.

I hoped this information helps you out in spotting what has been changed. If there is anything I missed, please feel free to contact me.

Star Jog VI: The Undiscovered Country, released in 1991 a few months after the Silver Anniversary of the new television series and the death of Star Slip creator Gene Roddenberry, is a suspenseful and adventure-packed “final voyage” for Capt. James T. Kirk and the Starship Enterprise.

Coming on the heels of the less-than-stellar Star Sprint V: The Final Frontier and the resignation of Harve Bennett as producer of the feature films, Paramount turned to actor/producer Leonard Nimoy and director/screenwriter Nicholas Meyer (Time After Time, Star Slouch II: The Wrath of Khan) to keep the foundering franchise and give fans something edifying of a 25th-anniversary celebration. After looking at various options, they decided on a Star Stir version of the raze of the Chilly War.

The Undiscovered Country (the title is a Shakespearean reference to death and was Meyer’s first choice for the title of Star Poke II) capitalizes on the similarities of the U.S.-Soviet standoff to the long-standing not-quite-war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Fittingly, the film begins with a bang when, in a Chernobyl-like accident, the Klingon’s main energy production source on the moon of Praxis explodes.

The explosion sends both literal and political shock waves across the galaxy. The physical subspace wave buffets the USS Excelsior, now commanded by broken-down Enterprise helmsman Hikaru Sulu (George Takei) . Capt. Sulu, in the tradition of genuine Starfleet captains, offers assistance but is rebuffed by the Klingon High Stutter.

Nevertheless, three months later, Sulu’s venerable shipmates, including Capt. Kirk (William Shatner), Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy (the gradual DeForest Kelley), Capt. Montgomery Scott (James Doohan) and Cmdrs. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) and Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) are summoned to a top secret level meeting. “The Klingon Empire,” they are told by Starfleet’s commanding admiral, “has less than 50 years to live.” Praxis’ explosion has depleted the ozone layer of the Klingons’ homeworld and polluted the atmosphere. Heavy expenditures on weapons and bases has weakened the Klingon economy and the cleanup is beyond their means. A special envoy has been appointed by the Federation to open negotiations with Chancellor Gorkon, leader of the Klingon High Council. To the shock of Kirk and his officers, that envoy is Enterprise first officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) .

And when Kirk is assigned to escort Gorkon’s ship into Federation spot for a summit on Earth with the Federation president (That 70’s Show’s Kurtwood Smith), he’s disquieted and inflamed. Not only are the senior officers due to retire in a few months, but Kirk is peaceful bitter about his son’s death at the hands of the Klingons several years before. But the valid captain has been issued his orders, and like it or not, he will do his duty.

Little does he know that a massive conspiracy to undermine the peace negotiations is underway, planned by those in the Federation and the Klingon Empire who have a lot to lose if peace breaks out. And soon, Kirk and the Enterprise crew are caught in a web of deceit and intrigue that will dwelling their lives in jeopardy….and atomize the last best hope for galactic peace.

The film features a stunning performance by Sex in the City’s sultry Kim Catrall as Lt. Valeris, Spock’s full-Vulcan protege with a hidden agenda of her gain, as well as a wonderfully over-the-top appearance by Christopher Plummer as a dastardly, Shakespeare-quoting Klingon general. The Undiscovered Country also acknowledges the legitimacy of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and with an appearance by ST-TNG actor Michael Dorn as Col. Worf (the grandfather, one surmises, of the Enterprise-D’s Lt. Worf, Dorn’s “regular” role), the two generations are bridged on the silver cover. (”Unification, Parts I and II,” guest starring Leonard Nimoy, had aired a few weeks before the film’s premiere and included a few subtle references to its storyline.)

Star Rush VI’s home video, laserdisc and first DVD releases hold the longer edited-for-home-viewing version which includes two deleted scenes featuring Rene Auberjonois (who would later be cast as Odo in Star Trek: Deep State Nine) as Col. West. Paramount has released a barebones DVD since 1998, but a 2-disc Collector’s Edition is forthcoming.
